Today...

Today has been so relaxing.

I got a few new fabrics I ordered for new bears and other animal friends.

And I made a circle scarf!
I used this tutorial that I found on Pinterest to make mine. The only thing I did differently was I made my scarf 30" wide by 60" long before I folded it in half.

I'm off the do a little cleaning and give the dog a bath. I hope you're having a great and relaxing day too!

DIY: Stitched Holiday Cards

This afternoon I stitched up a few holiday cards to send to our families. We aren't exchanging gifts so I thought a little handmade touch on a blank card would be a sweet idea.
I purchased a pack of blank card stock cards with envelopes and used my sewing machine to stitch different colored stripes on them. I used teal, cream and red. For the stitches I used zigzag and straight stitches too! I'm really pleased with how these turned out and I can't wait to send them.

Adventures in "Quilting" - Part 1 - Fabric

Hello there! So as promised I am sharing how my "quilt" making process is going. I feel a little odd calling what I am doing quilting because to me the word quilt implies a level of skill and technique that I do not possess so for now I will call it "quilting." You see, when you add the little quotation marks the word takes on a whole new meaning, a much less official meaning. HaHa, know what I mean?

So here we go, my adventures in "quilting." I am being pretty ambitious for my first attempt and am making a queen-ish size blanket. I started with 13 half yards of fabric and cut as many 6" x 6" squares as I could from each. This brings me to my first lesson learned, when cutting your squares you can not forget to add seam allowance... Soooo instead of my finished quilt being 6"x6" squares, the seamed squares will end up being 5.5" x 5.5" which, to me, really isn't a huge deal I just added an extra square to each row to make up for the inches I lost due to my eagerness to start cutting fabric. I had read over and over again "don't forget the seam allowance" but, of course, I forgot the seam allowance... I ended up with 240 squares, which when finished, my quilt will (hopefully) be 15 squares by 16 squares making it 82.5" x 88" which I guess is kind of a weird size but whatever... I was really happy with my fabric choices, the red flowers and the yellow cottages are my favorites!

I laid out the squares and figured out where I wanted them to go, then I stacked 'em up in order and put each row in a LABELED zipper baggie. I've already sewn a few rows together and so far so good, but more on that in my next post!

Well I guess that's all for now, I am sick with some kind of awful food poisoning, yuck, so back to laying on the couch and drinking looooots of water for me! Hope you are doing and feeling well! xo Jen

Lately....

Lately I have been feeling so inspired, I have been making things from sun up to sun down. I just love it when I am in such a creative groove. Nothing feels better to me, nothing makes me happier. Here's just a peak at what I have been up to...
I'm makin a quilt and I use the term 'quilt' very loosely... It's my first and as always I am just diving in head first and hopefully it comes out decent. I plan to share a few posts on how this process has gone for me since this is really my first experience with 'quilting.' I am being pretty ambitious and making a queen size quilt and half way through cutting 250,000 squares (really 240) I thought I was in over my head but every thing's cut and I'm ready to start crazy stitching them together. Wish me luck!
I'm making some serious progress on my sweet home sweet pillow.
Been plush makin' too! I made a little ghost and a rain cloud. These will be up in the shop very soon if you are interested.

I'm also working on finishing up a cushion for my trash find chair and I am putting together a quick how-to for that, hopefully it will be finished in the next few days.... Annnd I think that's everything that I am working on.
Are you working on anything special lately?
